Shing Yui is a second-year Ph.D. student of the Social Contexts and Policies of Education (SCAPE). She has an undergraduate degree in Social Science, as well as a master's degree in Social Policy and Social Development. As a local student in Hong Kong, she has a passion in making contribution for policies in higher education. Shing Yui's research interests include sociology of education, higher education studies, female studies, equity, equality and social justice in education, Hong Kong studies and Southeast Asia studies.
At the same time, Shing Yui is also working as a Senior Research Assistant in the Centre of Applied English Studies (CAES) in The University of Hong Kong (HKU). She is currently responsible for investigating the impact of language courses on HKU student learning by mixed methods (Structural Equation Model and Focus Group interviews).
Current Research:
I am currently looking into the internationalization of higher education through the lens of female scholars in the Faculty of Social Sciences from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) as a representative of the top world-renowned university to draw new insights on female scholarships in Hong Kong. I intend to conduct a narrative analysis by integrating the Social Capital theory and Cumulative Disadvantage Theory in the exploration of this topic.
